Last time on the market I bought linen with amazing print.
I love to work with linen! Fine linen has so nice structure, a bit rough, soft and keeping form at the same time. And it is cooling you in summer!
Now I’ve decided to finally use it and make a new skirt! It would be two-layers skirt, the linen will be on top and for under layer I chose white batiste. The pattern is very simple just half circle. Let’s start…
But before we start to cut the fabric we have to wash it. This is something which you should keep in mind working with natural fabric: it has to be washed before you start, otherwise you can get a bad surprise after the first washing of the nice newly-made skirt. The fabric shrinks after the washing in hot water. The surprise would be even worse if you use different fabrics at once, like me now, because each of them will shrink in its own way.
How to wash the fabric? Do it as you like, you can do it by hand or using washing machine. Both are possible! I usually wash by hand except when I need to wash 10 meters of the fabric, it’s simply uncomfortable to do it by hand. But for 1-2 meter piece it is faster to wash by hand. I usually use temperature around 40°C, anyway I do not wash my cloth at higher temperatures. At last just dry your fabric, iron it and begin to create!
