Hi! It’s again me. Happy new year! I was quiet for long time and I have good reason for this. I did not have much time for sewing but it does not mean that I did nothing. At the moment I am slowly advancing in pattern making and around Christmas I have done a nice present for myself – new sewing machine!
Why Janome Skyline s7
This sewing machine is great for most of the sewing projects. It is good for sewing garments, decorative work, patchwork and quilts. The machine can easily go through multilayered denim (I tried 7 layers) and it works gently with thin silk. It has upper transporter which helps a lot to sew silky chiffon or padded details. 9 mm wide stitches are very nice for decorative work. And of course quilting! For mid-level and advanced sewers who do different kinds of sewing art it’s a brilliant machine!
It comes with a lot of accessories. Most of the useful foot are there, extra bobbin holder, strait stitch needle plate, knee-lift holder.
Skyline s7 has a lot of options which I find fantastic, for example the needle threader and automatic cut of threads after finishing to sew. This small option saves a lot of time!
I also like a possibility to sew without pedal. It’s especially nice for long work and free quilting. The button sewing has controlled speed. Another advantage for me is a high position of the feet, this makes sewing of heavily padded things much easier. Adjusted pressure of the feet is also very useful for someone who works with a lot of different fabrics.
I have mentioned already 9mm stitch width. Decorative stitched and alphabets look much nicer when they are bigger. Button holes of 9mm are also very nice.
The sewing machine has a large variety of decorative stitches, it also has a USB connection to load more stitches and software to create them. There is also an option to save created stitches in the case if you would need them later.
I personally like how the sewing machine works with thin and soft jersey. Since I do not have coverstitch machine and the possibility to sew knits and jersey is important for me. I have tried my french soft jersey, which is a challenge even for my overlock and I was surprised how easy machine handles it. The most difficult test was with twin needle and it works as well. Of course the quality of the twin stitch is not perfect, but still acceptable. Actually it’s much better with a more thick jersey.
Another nice option is the easy replaceable needle plate, just click one button and that’s all. Knee feet lifter I found also very nice.
