Hi! Today I would like to show a nice A-line skirt which is done in 3 hours. Nothing can be more simple than just box skirt! And if you take more fabric it even can look fabulous! Usually it takes a maximum 1 hour for such types of skirts, but in this case I sewed pleated skirt, this took some time.
How to fold the fabric to get a nice pleated skirt? Very easy, you just need some minor calculations before. First measure your waist. For example let’s take 72 cm. The fabric is 140 wide. For my skirt I used two lengths of the skirt, so, width is 280. 5 cm I needed for the seams and total width of the unfolded skirt is 275 cm. First of all, for the pleated skirt we would need at least 3 times more then the length of the waist line due to construction of the pleats. Second important moment: take care where would be the side seams. The skirt would look better if the seams are hidden in the inner corner of the pleat.
Now find out how many pleats of width 3 cm we can make. 72/3=24, we can have 24 pleats. Since we have two pieces of fabric the amount of pleats should be divisible by 2. And now we need to know the depth of the pleat. It can be calculated as (275-72)/24=8.4 cm. We are ready to sew!
First side seams should be done and then we can start to fold the fabric, the direction and art of folding does not matter, do as you like!
